A friendly guide to forming a relationship with God
Your spiritual journey is a continuous, enriching adventure. Deepen your connection with a few practical steps.

Begin where you are with your personal journey
A relationship with God never starts in an ideal place. It starts right now. You begin with your questions, your hopes, your doubts, your distractions, your past, your present responsibilities, and more.
You don't need to prepare yourself first, you simply turn your attention toward God as you are.
Take some time each day to stand still, or sit still for a moment, take a few intentional breathes to settle, continue to breathe intentionally and hold the thought "Here I am God, ready to serve." This tells God you are willing to begin or to continue your journey of selfless service to God and those around you.
Once you are satusfied that you have set your intention, be accepting to how the day unfolds and keep the intention with you. Wherever you find yourself today. You might be restless, hopeful, or sceptical. Today is your starting point and your life as it is now is not an obstacle.
End your day in the same way by standing still, or sitting still for a moment, take a few intentional breathes to settle, continue to breathe intentionally and hold the thought "Thank you God for ...".

Cultivating connection with practical steps
Think of forming a relationship with God as establishing a rhythm rather than mastering a technique. Begin with small, reliable practices that you can repeat without strain.
Silence.
Spend a few minutes each morning in quiet. Use a simple sentence like “God, be with me”. If your mind wanders, return gently. This is how you learn to listen.
A simple prayer.
Keep prayer short and real. Try three sentences:
Thank you God for…
Help me God with…
God, be with…
This alone can be an anchor to your day.
Gratitude and review.
Each evening, look back over your day for one moment of goodness and one place you struggled. Offer both to God. This stops the days from blurring together and helps you notice God’s work in your life.
Acts of love.
Nothing deepens connection like kindness. Offer small, unasked for acts of service in your everyday life. Practise forgiveness in ordinary irritations. Let compassion become a habit. These are not rules but rather are tools and simple patterns that open space for relationship to grow.
When you are ready.
Accept God as your personal Lord and Saviour.

Growing in faith using scripture, and community.
Faith becomes sturdy when it is nourished by wisdom and supported by others. Scripture gives shape to your understanding of God’s character, and community keeps you grounded when your own motivation wavers.
Read small portions of scripture slowly and let a single phrase stay with you. If a line draws your attention, comforts you, challenges you, or raises a question then turn it into a short prayer. Scripture is not meant to be rushed. It is meant to be absorbed.
Share the journey with others. Find a group or even one trusted person with whom you can talk honestly about questions, insights, and struggles. Community offers steadiness and perspective when you’re uncertain. A wise companion or mentor can show you practical ways they have prayed, read, and persevered.
Keep showing up with silence in the morning, simple prayer through the day, scripture in small doses, honest conversations with someone you trust, and regular acts of love. Over time these practices form a life that is increasingly grounded, patient, courageous, and aware of God’s presence.
